TRAVEL WITH RESPECT
Responsible Volunteering & Travel
Supporting communities responsibly requires preparation, humility, safe practice and respect for local knowledge.

People come first
Community needs, safeguarding and local leadership should guide every volunteer activity. Visiting volunteers contribute best when they listen, follow project staff and work within their abilities rather than treating placements as experiences centered on themselves.
Children and vulnerable people
Do not share identifiable photos, personal details or stories about children or vulnerable participants without appropriate consent and safeguarding review. Avoid unapproved one-to-one interactions and gifts that undermine local safeguarding practices.
Professional boundaries
Healthcare activities require appropriate credentials and local supervision. Construction, sanitation and environmental work must follow local safety procedures. Volunteers should never perform skilled or regulated tasks without required qualification and authorization.
Environmental responsibility
Reduce waste, respect wildlife, follow protected-area rules and choose locally appropriate transport and tourism practices. In fragile environments, small daily decisions can make a material difference.
Transparent costs and expectations
Ask which services are included, how volunteer project funds are managed, and how grievances can be raised. Confirm ethical sourcing and current arrangements rather than relying on generic impact claims.
